1 enclos de l'Abbaye, 78300 Poissy, France
The course adopts a historical approach of the toy and the culture of childhood, thus putting the child at the heart of the presentation, unprecedented to date in France... From the first ancient toys, which are the basis of the great families of toys known today (rattles, dolls...), presented thanks to a deposit at the Louvre Museum, to industrial products from the various revolutions of steam, electricity, oil and then computer technology. The history of the toy thus reveals that of materials, modes of production but also the place of the child in education. What is society’s view of the child? How does he learn about the modern world thanks to the toys given to him? The thematic exhibitions highlight the richness of the museum’s collections, 7% of which are presented, representing more than 600 objects. Interactive mechanical, digital and sound animations as well as a tactile path and play areas highlight the toy collections.
