Located in the Blaiseron valley, Charmes-en-l'Angle is the smallest commune of Haute-Marne demographically: it has 7 inhabitants. This village has very ancient origins, since it is mentioned from the 9th century, during the reign of the son of Charlemagne. At that time, it is probably only one with the neighboring town of Charmes-la-Grande, they are distinguished from each other from the thirteenth century.
Charmes-en-L'Angle takes its name from its position at the corner of a wooded mountain, once dominated by a fortified castle destroyed in 1549\. In the 18th century, the beautiful building was built according to the plans of the Parisian architect Dufour. It is completed by a landscaped park, known in the English style, in the 19th century.
Among the remarkable elements of the castle, a monumental gate, which preceded a mansion on what is now rue Diderot in Joinville (Haute-Marne), was listed as an historical monument by decree of 12 July 1934.
