Place Georges Clemenceau, 64000, Pau
Pyrénées-Atlantiques
Nouvelle-Aquitaine
After hosting the small church of Notre-Dame-des-Morts in the 17th century, then the market hall in the 19th century, place Clemenceau is the heart of the city in the crazy years, with the construction of emblematic buildings such as the Galeries Lafayette and the Palais des Pyrénées. In the 1950s, the Palace was pierced, offering an unobstructed view of the Pyrenees, while two 38-meter towers were erected there. In 2004, the square became pedestrian and an underground car park was built, contributing to the revitalization of the city center. In 2026, she changed her face again thanks to a vegetative operation. Now composed of two contemporary gardens, a mirror of water, the emblematic statue "La Source" by Paul Auban, two skylights transformed into gardens and several relaxation and conviviality areas, place Clemenceau hosts many events, such as the Christmas market, the place Gourmande or the Music Festival.
