A castle already existed before the year 1000\. In the 15th century, the castle presented a large enclosure surrounded by water and confined with round or square towers. In the seventeenth century, the house is modernized while maintaining a medieval look marked by the nine towers, the moats and the irregular plan. The building was the residence of Louis, second duke of Saint-Simon, whose memoirs testify to the court of Louis XIV. He builds new commons, called Petit Château. In the 18th century, the building is enlarged and embellished. The castle, almost entirely razed to its foundations, was rebuilt in a classical and monumental style by the architect Antoine Le Carpentier. Inside, the apartments are enriched with paintings and stucco. The park was redesigned in the French style with avenues, parterre ponds, canals and balustrades. In 1784, at the request of the king, the duke had to give his castle to the duke of Penthièvre, grandson of Louis XIV. From 1795, the castle was looted. I
