The Musée d'art moderne de Saint-Étienne Métropole holds one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art in French museums. Constituted and systematically enriched since 1947, it is one of the few that, from the beginning of the century to the most recent trends, is able to testify to what has been, in its complexity, the development of Western art in the industrial era. The opening, from the end of the 1980s, to new areas of collection dedicated to design and photography even made the Museum of Modern Art in Saint-Étienne Métropole one of the only ones, with the National Museum of Modern Art, to be able to report on plastic creation in the 20th century in all its scope and diversity.

By car: By motorway from Lyon and Clermont-Ferrand: exit Saint-Étienne Nord, la Terrasse. Free parking reserved for visitors to the Museum (including Jean Laude library, and bookshop). By public transport: Trams T1 or T3 direction Hôpital Nord, stop "Musée Art Moderne".
