John the Hispanic, Visigoth from Toledo, received from Charlemagne in 793 the law of aprision, (the right to clear an uncultivated land and acquire ownership), a territory called Font Joncosa, and created the village of Fontjoncouse. From the old castrum where the village was established, today there remains only the Romanesque church Sainte-Léocadie (church listed as a historical monument) and some remains of the fortifications.
