The Fall of the Kings
The Arianna choir, composed of about sixty singers, is directed by Frédéric Serrano and accompanied at the piano by Nicolas Contamine.
Between the different pieces in the program, the actress Delphine Lafon will present excerpts from speeches by dictators, notably Mussolini and Hitler, as well as texts by poets such as Percy Shelley, Victor Hugo, and Alfred de Vigny. These readings will also be accompanied by the choir.
The concert is inspired by Percy Shelley’s poem Ozymandias, which evokes the fall of an ancient king who was once all-powerful, only a broken statue and some inscriptions erased by time remaining.
The whole program thus explores the destiny of kings, dictators and pharaohs whose power eventually disappeared.
On the program, works by Z. Randall Stroope, Erik Meyer, Robert Sterling and Gustav Holst.
