Im Oktober 1986, ein Jahr nach seiner Verleihung des Nobelpreises, reist Claude Simon auf Einladung eines sehr offiziellen kirgisischen Schriftstellers in die Sowjetunion, um zusammen mit vierzehn anderen westlichen Kulturakteuren an einem internationalen Forum teilzunehmen, das darauf abzielt, über nichts weniger als die "die Ziele der Menschheit im dritten Jahrtausend auf globaler Ebene". Die Teilnehmer werden von offiziellen Empfängen zu touristischen Besichtigungen in der Neustadt Bischkek, am Issyk-Kul-See, im Kloster Zagorsk und auf dem Bolschoi-Platz versetzt, wo sie den letzten Feuern einer alten Ballerina beiwohnen, bevor sie vom neuen Staatsoberhaupt im Kreml empfangen werden. Aus dieser Reise, die sich unweigerlich in ein Fiasko verwandelt, erzählt Claude Simon in den folgenden Monaten eine kurze und klare Erzählung in Form einer spöttischen Parade, voller Täuschungen und übertriebener Kulissen, zweifelhaftem Prunk und grotesker Grandiosität, viel Leere und Erwartungen. und vor allem von einer Inflation unnötiger und leerer Worte, die jede Möglichkeit der Wahrheit überflutet und einschließt.

A show by Marie Vialle and the company "Le Bout de la langue" based on the novel by Claude Simon.
In October 1986, a year after winning his Nobel Prize, Claude Simon went to the Soviet Union at the invitation of a very official Kyrgyz writer, to participate with fourteen other Western cultural actors in an international forum intended to reflect on nothing less than the "the goals of humanity in the third millennium on a global scale". The participants are sent from official receptions to tourist visits to the new city of Bishkek, Lake Issyk-Kul, the monastery of Zagorsk, the Bolshoi, where they attend the last fires of an old ballerina, before being received in the Kremlin by the new head of state, Mikhail Gorbachev.
From this journey, which inevitably turns into a fiasco, Claude Simon draws in the months that follow a brief and clear story, in the form of a clown parade, made up of false appearances and disproportionate sets, dubious pomp and grotesque grandiloquence, a lot of emptiness and expectations, and above all an inflation of useless and empty words, which invades and covers up any possibility of truth.

Nell'ottobre 1986, un anno dopo aver vinto il premio Nobel, Claude Simon si reca in Unione Sovietica su invito di uno scrittore kirghiso molto ufficiale, per partecipare con altri quattordici attori culturali occidentali a un forum internazionale destinato a riflettere su niente meno che i "gli obiettivi dell'umanità nel terzo millennio su scala mondiale". I partecipanti sono passati da ricevimenti ufficiali a visite turistiche alla città nuova di Bishkek, al lago Issyk-Kul, al monastero di Zagorsk, al Bolshoi, dove hanno assistito alle ultime luci di una vecchia ballerina, prima di essere ricevuti al Cremlino dal nuovo capo dello Stato, Mikhail Gorbachev.
Da questo viaggio, che inevitabilmente si trasforma in un fiasco, Claude Simon trae nei mesi successivi una narrazione breve e netta, a forma di parata buffa, fatta di finte apparenze e scenografie smisurate, di fasto dubbio e di grandiosità grottesca, di molto vuoto e di aspettative, e soprattutto di un'inflazione di parole inutili e vuote, che invade e copre ogni possibilità di verità.

En octobre 1986, un an après l’obtention de son prix Nobel, Claude Simon se rend en Union soviétique à l’invitation d’un écrivain kirghiz très officiel, pour participer avec quatorze autres acteurs culturels occidentaux à un forum international destiné à réfléchir à rien de moins que les « les objectifs de l’humanité dans le troisième millénaire à l’échelle mondiale ». Les participants sont ballotés de réceptions officielles en visites touristiques à la ville nouvelle de Bichkek, au lac Issyk-Koul, au monastère de Zagorsk, au Bolchoï, où ils assistent aux derniers feux d’une vieille ballerine, avant d’être reçus au Kremlin par le nouveau chef de l’État, Mikhail Gorbatchev.
De ce voyage qui tourne inévitablement au fiasco, Claude Simon tire dans les mois qui suivent un récit bref et net, en forme de parade bouffonne, faite de faux semblants et de décors démesurés, de faste douteux et de grandiloquence grotesque, de beaucoup de vide et d’attentes, et surtout d’une inflation de paroles inutiles et creuses, qui envahit et recouvre toute possibilité de vérité.
