Château de Belleville
Place du Marché-Neuf 91190 Gif-sur-Yvette
Belleville is originally the name of a fief including a farm and a modest manor house enlarged in the 18th century according to an orthogonal plan and takes the name of castle in 1774\. In the 19th century are built the two wings that frame, with the central pavilion, the courtyard of honor. The castle expands and then appears as we know it today. It still runs alongside the neighboring farm. In 1833, the whole property was sold to Count Edouard de Chambray who had a new farm built in 1855\. The castle is then cleared, new outbuildings are built, the park is landscaped. From this date, the domain will be gradually broken up. From 1919, the woods were sold and then moved to the place of the current district of Belleville, while a renowned agricultural and household school managed by the new owner, Léontine Thome, settled in the castle. Located on the territory of Gometz-la-Ville, the castle and its park were acquired by the municipality of Gif in 1976\. It is today an essential meeting
