Provenance research: An alternate History of Art?

Round table organized by the École du Louvre
Jueves 27 junio, 12:00Passed

During the round table, scientific and institutional actors in Provenance Research will discuss the conditions and possible ways of furthering provenance investigations to a wider discourse on Art History, and in particular to its teaching and its social uses.
For the time being, Provenance Research focuses on former colonial areas where the colonial gap is significant and well known. In this sense, Provenance Research in the post-colonial context constitutes a specific, political, historical and ethical field of reparation.
But to what extent, and under which conditions, can the Art History discipline be a perennial source of reparation, resilience and sharing? To that aim, which directions should national and international research programs take? How can we teach an Art History that takes account of the challenges of the present while strengthening the scientific foundations of the exhibition of material cultures?
