The Saint-Léonard district overlooks the media library and the premises of the Tourist Office and is distinguished by the presence of its imposing church, dedicated to Saint-Léonard, young man of the court of Clovis, patron saint of prisoners.
Documents testify to the existence of the ancient church on this site as early as 1186.
Destroyed during the capture of the city in 1357 by the English, its ruin was complete in 1419 during the attack of the Count of Salisbury. Rebuilt after the Hundred Years War, in the Gothic style, it was again destroyed by the Protestants during the wars of religion (1562). Today, only the facade is left.
The different restoration and reconstruction campaigns explain, in part, the meeting of different styles. Its beautiful portal of flamboyant Gothic style is, in fact, considered as a last expression of medieval art (late 15th century) while its large clock dial and its octagonal bell tower, decorated with musical instruments, date from the 18th century. The rest of the building dates from the seventeenth century, including the side gate, on the wall of the bedside, one can, indeed, read 1625.
