Free visit Chapel of the Ortial Rots XIIIe s.
Isolated in a meadow, the chapel of Ortial is dedicated to Our Lady. Cited for the first time in 1291 under the name of Ortiei, then in the eighteenth century under that of Ortias, or even Otya in the current dialect, it was formerly surrounded by the buildings of the fief Simeon of which nothing is visible anymore. Its origin dates back to at least the middle of the 12th century, but the present building, entirely Gothic, dates from the end of the 13th century. Until 1937, the chapel served as a burial place for Billy’s family who owned it. The small bell tower at the arcade has been damaged by recent storms including that of 1999. Nevertheless, it was able to be renovated as well as the chapel thanks to the energy of its owners and its association of safeguard.
