Château de Creully
30 place Paillaud, Creully, 14480 Creully sur Seulles
A few kilometers from the landing beaches and the Bayeux Tapestry, the medieval castle of Creully is one of the most important of the Calvados after those of Caen and Falaise. Located in the heart of the village of Creully-sur-Seulles, its history is close to that of William the Conqueror, the Hundred Years War or the Battle of Normandy. The castle’s Square Tower was chosen to secretly house the BBC’s war reporters' studio after the village was liberated in June 1944\. The castle of Creully also surprises with its atypical architecture, which testifies to the multiple transformations it underwent from the 12th to the 19th century. Its fortress appearance, with its moat, ramparts and machicolations contrasts strongly with the Renaissance turret of the façade. The stables and the exceptional Romanesque hall recall the presence of the great lords who succeeded each other in Creully for several centuries.
