Retrospective exhibition on the great collection of archives in progress celebrating the anniversary of the Liberation of Caen - Since last January, the Municipal Archives of Caen launched a large collection of documents testifying to the occupation of Caen until the end of the Reconstruction in 1963, through the Liberation and the relocation of the Caen victims. In this commemorative context, the Archives wishes to present to the public these documents deposited by the donors, illustrating the collective memory.

A heritage building at the service of today’s art Built in the 14th century to welcome guests of the Abbaye-aux-Hommes, the Ducal Palace served in the 17th century as a stable and granary.
After the Revolution, the army used it as a food store before the École Normale d'Instituteurs was established there in 1862\. Work was then undertaken, by the architect Guy, especially on the facade of the building.
In 1886, the École Normale d'Instituteurs was replaced by the École des Institutrices, the boys having joined their new establishment on Caponnière Street.
On May 2, 1927, the Ducal Palace was inscribed as a Historic Monument. If during the Battle of Caen, the building escapes the bombs it receives a few shells, whose traces can still be seen on the wall of the chapel, and which make some victims among the normalians. The École Normale left in the 1960s.
