"Effet Miroir" is an artistic look on Senegal, from Paris & Montreuil.
FatimataSY uses to work on the senegalian handwoven traditionnal fabric "Kente" (skirts, bags, snoods...). This precious material is usually made and wore on special occasion (wedding, funeral, baptism...). FatimataSY decided here to use this fabric at her own way, in her workshop at Montreuil.
On the other side, photos pictorializing the daily way of living of the SY family in the small village of Dimath, at the north of Senegal, near the Mauritanian border. Time seems to be on hold.
Modernity is making its way through by new communication means, but still, something from the old time is still tangible.
Tradition, fashion, photography, some telescoping which sais also the abstract, the interest for one's own origins, mixed cultures, the creative look...

Effet Miroir c'est le regard double sur le Sénégal, vue de Montreuil & Paris.
A l'origine, FatimataSY travaille avec le pagne tissé à la main à Dakar, des pièces uniques (Jupes, cabas, écharpes...). Cette etoffe précieuse est traditionnellement fabriquée et portée en pagne lors d'évènements festifs (mariage, baptème, funérailles). La créatrice a détourné cette matière issue d'un savoir faire traditionnel et ancestral pour la travailler à sa façon, dans son atelier de Montreuil.
En face, des photographies illustre le quotidien de la famille SY dans le petit village de Dimath, près de la frontière Sénégal Mauritanie, où le temps paraît suspendu, même si la modernité y fait son entrée par tous les nouveaux moyens de communication.
Tradition, mode, photo, un télescopage qui dit aussi l'attrait, l'intérêt pour les origines, la double culture, la transposition et le regard créatif.
