In the footsteps of Georges Méliès
With Juliette Dubois, organizer of film-walks (in partnership with Explore Paris)
As part of the JEP, we invite you to stroll through the streets of Montreuil in the footsteps of the pioneer of cinema and special effects and those who followed him.
What if we told you that cinema was born in Montreuil? Well this is partly true since it is here that Georges Méliès, inventor of special effects and pioneer of fiction in cinema, created the very first film studio in the world and directed more than 500 films. We will rediscover the city with him, from the cinema «Le Méliès» to the location of its studios now disappeared, while paying tribute to other figures of Montreuil cinema such as Emile Reynaud, the inventor of the cartoon, and the directors of Studios Pathé-Albatross. Finally, we will see that Montreuil is still a land of filming with many films of today: The First Day of the rest of your life, The Anonymous Emotives, The Aquatic Effect, Lupin, etc.
This dive to the origins of cinema will be illustrated of course by photos and extracts on tablet.
