The Madonna of Lilloise - Collectif Toporama
Return from Rome for the Toporama Collective, winner of the 2024 Wicar Prize, the creative residency of the City of Lille in Rome.

During their residency, the collective conducted an artistic investigation centered on the figure of women and mothers in the Roman public space. Beyond the emblematic “madonna” of art history and the stereotype "mamma italiana", what is the maternal heritage and the notion of matrimony? In connection with the Italian Format of the Espace Le Carré, Toporama invites mothers from Lille to share their experience around meetings and creative workshops designed for them.

Lors de leur résidence, le collectif a mené une enquête artistique centrée sur la figure de la femme et de la mère dans l'espace public romain. Au-delà de la “madone” emblématique de l’histoire de l’art et la stéréotypée "mamma italienne", de quoi est fait l'héritage maternel et la notion de matrimoine ? En lien avec le Format à l’Italienne de l’Espace Le Carré, Toporama invite les mères de Lille au Palais des Beaux-Arts pour partager leur expérience autour de rencontres et d’ateliers créatifs pensés pour elles.

Tijdens hun residentie voerde het collectief een artistiek onderzoek uit, gericht op de figuur van vrouwen en moeders in de Romeinse openbare ruimte. Wat is, naast het symbolische "madonna" van de kunstgeschiedenis en het stereotype "mamma italiana", het moederlijke erfgoed en het begrip van het huwelijk? In verband met het Italiaanse formaat van de Espace Le Carré nodigt Toporama moeders uit Lille uit om hun ervaringen te delen rond vergaderingen en creatieve workshops die voor hen zijn ontworpen.
