ZIGOR exhibition - The mysteries of intent
ZIGOR, whose real name is Kepa Akixo, is one of the great contemporary sculptors from the Basque Country who can be found in numerous collections around the world.
In 1983, after several years as a photographer-reporter for major magazines and the Capa agency, Zigor decided to devote himself entirely to sculpture, poetry and drawing. He draws his inspiration mainly from nature, from the granite chaos of his native land, the Spanish Basque country, which constitutes his entire being. Spiritual dimensions and identity lie at the heart of each work.
Zigor explores materials such as wood, bronze and steel, using mass and volume to occupy a space that challenges gravity. The obscure and the luminous inhabit him. The sculptor's job, as Zigor puts it, is to open a path for light. This light is also reflected in his poetry and photographs.
After a major retrospective entitled 'Formes nues' at the Base sous-marine in Bordeaux in 2010, it's now the turn of the Centre d'art contemporain - Château Lescombes to present Zigor's powerful work. This artist proposes a perception of the world in which emotion plays a major role. Let us be carried away by it.
