MAGLIE CITTA' DI GIARDINI The event "Maglie Città di Giardini" includes a guided tour of Villa Achille Tamborino that will accompany guests from the monumental entrance, sober and imposing, to the different paths that draw the part of the garden in Italian style, with flower beds, exotic plants and seats, then along the central one that will lead them to the English zone. Crossing the holm oak forest and skirting several artificial caves, you will come under the staircase that leads to the Belvedere, embellished by the presence of an Art Nouveau pavilion enriched by a Corinthian capital, from which you can admire the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorrows and part of the city. The walk will be enriched by the possibility of visiting some private gardens of the City of Maglie with their palaces, guardians of centuries of history: Palazzo Romano is a noble residence, in Lecce stone, dating back to 1700 with an adjoining chapel dedicated to Sant'Anna. It is characterized by a large main atrium with friezes and views overlooking the garden including citrus grove. Villa Cezzi is located in the historic center of the town, built in the mid-nineteenth century in the style of time. The façade, which faces the central Via Roma, is contrasted, to the west, a staircase with a double ramp, which puts it in communication with the large garden that until the mid-nineteenth century was called Giardino dei 'Pigni', for the presence, to the west of the park, of many pine trees, some of which still stand out today. The 'design' of the present garden is due to Giovanni Cezzi (1910-1974) who, in the early thirties of the last century, made use of the advice of his friends agronomists and especially the landscape suggestions of the painter Luigi Portaluri (1878-1962). The layout is typically the geometric one of the Italian garden, but does not hide Rococo and Art Nouveau memories, just of the rural residences of Salento between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries All the realities involved in the event will tell the universe of the garden, its cultural and environmental relevance, its importance for the well-being of individuals and the community.
