The exchange between Piers Faccini and Ballaké Sissoko began almost 20 years ago, when the two artists met at the same record company: Label Bleu. Immediately, a fascinating dialogue was created between the folk songwriter from London – passionate about African music – and the musician from Bamako – heir to the great tradition of the kora and Mandingo music. The most beautiful conversations sometimes take time. To go beyond clichés, it takes time. Contrary to the saying, music is not a universal thing, but rather a matter of languages. It takes time to learn the other's languages, not just to listen to them, but above all to hear them.
In 2020, finding themselves again on the same label, this time Nø Førmat, the exchanges are renewed. Ballaké Sissoko invites Piers Faccini to sing Kadidja, a song in Bambara, on his album Djourou. Then, Piers Faccini composes another song for the duo: The Fire Inside. The two friends then decide to record an entire album together, which is scheduled for release in early 2025.
