Impasse of loyalty - Paul Gérard

Paul Gérard (1998, Brussels) is an artist and a graduate of the Atelier d'Espace Urbain at ENSAV La Cambre. His immersive installations awaken our intimate memory, which he puts in resonance with his own past and to make a broader history heard. Impasse de la Fidélité is the culmination of three other projects, Etouffé dans la boue, Chez Marlène and L'Hôtel de la Violette, whose whole reconstructs the fictional life of his homosexual grandfather.
Conceived as a stroll, the exhibition plunges the public into a real setting, both intimate and social. Starting from a domestic place, his grandmother’s house, and places of homosexual socialization (clandestine bars and hotel de passe), the artist projects two generations back in the 1960s. It brings back to life places of the past and draws our attention to what has been invisibilized or even forgotten. Memory, family archives and fiction are combined in this exhibition to pay tribute to a silent generation.
