In the Douro region, Ema grew up with her father in an atmosphere of great poetic sensitivity. Seductive and innocent, she develops an irresistible taste for romantic fictions but never finds satisfaction with men. As a woman, she married a doctor whom she didn’t like and moved with him to the Valley of Abraham. Leading a worldly life, Ema will meet three lovers in a constant search for passion, luxury and challenges.
Free adaptation of Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert in Portugal during the second half of the 20th century.

Dans la région du Douro, Ema grandit avec son père dans une atmosphère de grande sensibilité poétique. Séduisante et innocente, elle développe un goût irrésistible pour les fictions romantiques mais ne trouve jamais de satisfaction avec les hommes. Devenue femme, elle épouse un médecin qu’elle n’aime pas, avec qui elle déménage dans la vallée d’Abraham. Menant une vie mondaine, Ema connaîtra trois amants dans une constante recherche de passion, de luxe et de défis.
