The exhibition is part of the Regard sur la collection cycle initiated by TAMAT in 2025, which highlights the museum’s collections through renewed thematic and historical readings.
This new edition explores a chapter that is still too little studied: the contribution of women to the transformation of tapestry in the second half of the twentieth century.
The Belgian tapestry of the 20th century has experienced a remarkable revival. His male figures are well identified. The contribution of women—painters-cartonnieres, licie-creatrices, textile artists—is much less so, as they play an active role in the recognition of modern tapestry and its evolution towards contemporary textile arts.
Through four sequences covering the years 1950–1970, the exhibition highlights singular paths and gives way to eight somewhat forgotten creators of the history of the Belgian tapestry.

L’exposition s’inscrit dans le cycle Regard sur la collection initié par TAMAT en 2025, qui met en valeur les collections du musée à travers des lectures thématiques et historiques renouvelées.
Cette nouvelle édition explore un chapitre encore trop peu étudié : la contribution des femmes à la transformation de la tapisserie durant la seconde moitié du XXe siècle.
La tapisserie belge du XXe siècle a connu un renouveau remarquable. Ses figures masculines sont bien identifiées. La contribution des femmes — peintres-cartonnières, licières-créatrices, artistes textiles — l’est beaucoup moins, alors qu’elles jouent un rôle actif dans la reconnaissance de la tapisserie moderne et son évolution vers les arts textiles contemporains.
À travers quatre séquences couvrant les années 1950–1970, l’exposition met en lumière des parcours singuliers et donne place à huit créatrices quelque peu oubliées de l’histoire de la tapisserie belge.

De tentoonstelling maakt deel uit van de blik op de collectiecyclus die in 2025 door TAMAT is geïnitieerd en die de collecties van het museum belicht door vernieuwde thematische en historische lezingen.
Deze nieuwe editie verkent een hoofdstuk dat nog te weinig bestudeerd is: De bijdrage van vrouwen aan de transformatie van tapijt in de tweede helft van de 20ste eeuw.
Het Belgische tapijt van de 20e eeuw heeft een opmerkelijke opleving ondergaan. Zijn mannelijke figuren zijn goed geïdentificeerd. De bijdrage van vrouwen – kartonnen schilders, liciers-makers, textielkunstenaars – is veel minder, terwijl zij een actieve rol spelen in de erkenning van moderne tapijten en de evolutie ervan naar hedendaagse textielkunst
Door middel van vier sequenties over de jaren 1950-1970, belicht de tentoonstelling enkele paden en geeft plaats aan acht scheppers die enigszins vergeten zijn in de geschiedenis van het Belgische tapijt.
