Die Ausstellung wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit der Neuen Pinakothek in München zum Thema der deutschen Künstler gestaltet, die im 19. Jahrhundert in Rom gearbeitet haben.
Die außergewöhnliche Leihgabe von rund 30 Werken aus diesen Sammlungen und zahlreiche Fotos aus dem Dietmar Siegert-Bestand ermöglicht einen privilegierten Dialog mit Werken des Aixois-Malers François-Marius Granet.
Zu dieser Zeit war Italien, und insbesondere Rom, ein attraktives Reiseziel, wenn nicht sogar ein Muss für deutsche Künstler. In Rom treffen diese Künstler auf andere Künstler, aber auch auf Mäzene verschiedener Nationalitäten und beteiligen sich an einem viel größeren und internationaleren Kunstmarkt als anderswo in Deutschland, der damals politisch und wirtschaftlich zersplittert war.

This exhibition is designed in partnership with the Neue Pinakothek in Munich around the theme of German artists who worked in Rome during the 19th century.
The exceptional loan of thirty works from these collections and numerous photos from the Dietmar Siegert collection allows a privileged dialogue with works of the Aix painter François-Marius Granet.
At that time, Italy, and especially Rome, was an attractive destination if not essential for German artists. In Rome, these artists met other artists, but also patrons of different nationalities, and participated in a much larger and international art market than anywhere else in Germany, then fragmented politically and economically.

Questa mostra è stata progettata in collaborazione con la Neue Pinakothek di Monaco di Baviera sul tema degli artisti tedeschi che hanno lavorato a Roma nel corso del XIX secolo.
Il prestito eccezionale di una trentina di opere di queste collezioni e di numerose foto del fondo Dietmar Siegert permette un dialogo privilegiato con opere del pittore aixois François-Marius Granet.
A quel tempo, l'Italia, e in particolare Roma, era una destinazione attraente se non essenziale per gli artisti tedeschi. A Roma, questi artisti incontrano altri artisti, ma anche mecenati, di diverse nazionalità, e partecipano a un mercato dell'arte molto più vasto e internazionale che altrove in Germania, allora frammentata sul piano politico ed economico.

Cette exposition est conçue en partenariat avec la Neue Pinakothek de Munich autour du thème des artistes allemands ayant travaillé à Rome au cours du XIXe siècle.
Le prêt exceptionnel d’une trentaine d’œuvres de ces collections et de nombreuse photos du fonds Dietmar Siegert permet un dialogue privilégié avec des œuvres du peintre aixois François-Marius Granet.
À cette époque, l’Italie, et plus particulièrement Rome, était une destination attrayante si ce n’est essentielle pour les artistes allemands. À Rome, ces artistes rencontrent d’autres artistes mais aussi des mécènes, de différentes nationalités, et participent à un marché de l’art bien plus vaste et international que partout ailleurs en Allemagne, alors fragmentée sur le plan politique et économique.
En quatre volets, l’exposition montre la richesse et la diversité des styles et des sources d’inspirations de ces peintres et photographes à cette époque.
