Die Ausstellung des finnischen Keramikers Pekka Paikkari bietet einen neuen Dialog zwischen zeitgenössischer Kunst und Archäologie.
Sie befindet sich in den Räumen des Archäologischen Museums von Ensérune und knüpft eine poetische und konzeptuelle Verbindung zwischen den Werken des Künstlers und den ständigen Sammlungen des Museums an.
Durch die Vermischung von Fragmentierung, Rekonstruktion und Formen, die von alten Artefakten inspiriert sind, hinterfragt der Künstler Pekka Paikkari unsere Beziehung zu Zeit, Erinnerung und Identität von Objekten. Die großen Wandplatten aus rissigem Ton, die in monumentalen Kompositionen zusammengesetzt wurden, erinnern an die Gesten der Archäologen, die die Scherben der Vergangenheit wiederherstellen. Seine Skulpturen nehmen hingegen den Anschein von unkenntlich gewordenen Gegenständen - Flaschen, Vasen oder Geschirr - an, als ob sie aus einer unentwirrbaren Vergangenheit exhumiert worden wären.
Weit entfernt von einer einfachen historischen Anspielung, lädt die Ausstellung den Betrachter zu einem aktiven Engagement ein, zu einer Reflexion über die Zerbrechlichkeit der Zivilisationen und die aus der Vergänglichkeit entstehende Schönheit. In einer von Rationalität und Konsum gesättigten Welt verwandelt der Künstler alltägliche Gegenstände, indem er sie zu "Objekten der Neugier" macht, die jeder endgültigen Interpretation widerstehen und so einen kritischen Blick auf unsere Zeit werfen.
Durch eine zersplitterte Szenografie verwischen die Ausstellungsstücke «Fragments d'Histoire» die Grenzen zwischen Kunst und Archäologie, zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart und regen uns so dazu an, die Spuren - real oder imaginär - unserer kollektiven Geschichte anders wahrzunehmen.
Die Ausstellung «Fragments d'Histoire» wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Don du Fel, einem europäischen Zentrum für zeitgenössische Keramik, das seit etwa zwanzig Jahren im Lot-Tal nördlich des Departements Aveyron eingerichtet ist, geschaffen. Die einzige Galerie, die in Frankreich ausgestellt hat, sind die Werke von Pekka Paikkari, seinem Gründer, Nigel Atkins, Co-Kursitor der Ausstellung, und bietet uns eine seltene Auswahl ausgewählter Werke. Seine einzigartigen Stücke finden so eine Resonanz mit einer der wichtigsten Sammlungen antiker Vasen, die im Inland entdeckt wurden.

The exhibition by the Finnish ceramist Pekka Paikkari proposes a new dialogue between contemporary art and archaeology.
Installed in the rooms of the archaeological museum of Ensérune, it weaves a poetic and conceptual link between the artist’s works and the permanent collections of the museum.
By mixing fragmentation, reconstruction and forms inspired by ancient artifacts, the artist Pekka Paikkari questions our relationship to time, memory and the identity of objects. Its large wall plates, made from fissured clay and assembled into monumental compositions, evoke the gestures of archaeologists reconstructing the shards of the past. His sculptures, on the other hand, take on the appearance of familiar objects that have become unrecognizable — bottles, vases or dishes—as exhumed from an indecipherable past.
Far from a mere historical evocation, the exhibition invites the viewer to an active engagement, to a reflection on the fragility of civilizations and the beauty born from impermanence. In a world saturated with rationality and consumerism, the artist transforms everyday objects into "objects of curiosity" resistant to any definitive interpretation, thus taking a critical look at our time.
Through an exploded scenography, the exhibition "Fragments of History" blurs the boundaries between art and archaeology, between past and present, and thus encourages us to perceive differently the remains — real or imaginary—of our collective history.
The exhibition "Fragments d'Histoire" was created in partnership with the Don du Fel, a European centre for contemporary ceramics established for twenty years in the Lot valley, north of the department of Aveyron. Only gallery to have exhibited in France, the works of Pekka Paikkari, its founder, Nigel Atkins, co-curator of the exhibition, offers us a rare selection of selected works. Its singular pieces thus enter into resonance with one of the most important collections of ancient vases discovered on the national territory.

Installata nelle sale del museo archeologico di Ensérune, crea un legame poetico e concettuale tra le opere dell'artista e le collezioni permanenti del museo.
Mescolando frammentazione, ricostruzione e forme ispirate ad antichi manufatti, l'artista Pekka Paikkari interroga il nostro rapporto con il tempo, la memoria e l'identità degli oggetti. Le sue grandi lastre murali, realizzate in argilla incrinata e rialzate in composizioni monumentali, evocano i gesti degli archeologi che ricostruiscono i frammenti del passato. Le sue sculture, invece, assumono l'aspetto di oggetti familiari divenuti irriconoscibili - bottiglie, vasi o stoviglie - come se fossero state riesumate da un passato indecifrabile.
Lungi dal limitarsi a una semplice evocazione storica, la mostra invita lo spettatore ad un impegno attivo, a una riflessione sulla fragilità delle civiltà e sulla bellezza nata dall'impermanenza. In un mondo saturo di razionalità e consumo, l'artista trasforma oggetti di uso quotidiano rendendoli "oggetti di curiosità" resistenti a qualsiasi interpretazione definitiva, e ponendo così uno sguardo critico sulla nostra epoca.
Attraverso una scenografia frammentata, l'esposizione «Fragments d'Histoire» confonde i confini tra arte e archeologia, tra passato e presente, e ci spinge a percepire in modo diverso le vestigia - reali o immaginarie - della nostra storia collettiva.
La mostra «Fragments d'Histoire» è stata creata in collaborazione con il Don du Fel, polo europeo della ceramica contemporanea installato da una ventina d'anni nella valle del Lot, a nord del dipartimento dell'Aveyron. Unica galleria ad aver esposto in Francia, le opere di Pekka Paikkari, il suo fondatore, Nigel Atkins, co-curatore della mostra, ci propone una rara selezione di opere selezionate. Le sue opere singolari entrano così in risonanza con una delle più importanti collezioni di vasi antichi scoperte sul territorio nazionale.

L’exposition du céramiste finlandais Pekka Paikkari propose un dialogue inédit entre l’art contemporain et l’archéologie.
Installée au sein des salles du musée archéologique d’Ensérune, elle tisse un lien poétique et conceptuel entre les œuvres de l’artiste et les collections permanentes du musée.
En mêlant fragmentation, reconstruction et formes inspirées d’artefacts anciens, l’artiste Pekka Paikkari interroge notre rapport au temps, à la mémoire et à l’identité des objets. Ses grandes plaques murales, réalisées à partir d’argile fissurée et remontée en compositions monumentales, évoquent les gestes des archéologues reconstituant les tessons du passé. Ses sculptures, quant à elles, prennent l’apparence d’objets familiers devenus méconnaissables — bouteilles, vases ou vaisselle — comme exhumés d’un passé indéchiffrable.
Loin d’une simple évocation historique, l’exposition invite le spectateur à un engagement actif, à une réflexion sur la fragilité des civilisations et la beauté née de l’impermanence. Dans un monde saturé de rationalité et de consommation, l’artiste transforme des objets du quotidien en en faisant des "objets de curiosité" résistant à toute interprétation définitive, et posant ainsi un regard critique sur notre époque.

Mezclando fragmentación, reconstrucción y formas inspiradas en artefactos antiguos, el artista Pekka Paikkari cuestiona nuestra relación con el tiempo, la memoria y la identidad de los objetos. Sus grandes placas murales, realizadas a partir de arcilla fisurada y remontada en composiciones monumentales, evocan los gestos de los arqueólogos que reconstruyen los fragmentos del pasado. Sus esculturas, por su parte, toman la apariencia de objetos familiares que se han vuelto irreconocibles - botellas, jarrones o vajillas - como exhumados de un pasado indescifrable.
Lejos de una simple evocación histórica, la exposición invita al espectador a un compromiso activo, a una reflexión sobre la fragilidad de las civilizaciones y la belleza nacida de la impermanencia. En un mundo saturado de racionalidad y consumo, el artista transforma objetos cotidianos convirtiéndolos en "objetos curiosos" resistentes a cualquier interpretación definitiva, y así pone una mirada crítica sobre nuestra época.
