Brought together for the AS WE ARE evening, Joséphine and Bantu weave a dialogue around memory, exile, heritage and the reclaiming of identity.

In a moving solo, Germaine Acogny, a pioneer of Afro-contemporary dance, summons the memory of Joséphine Baker. She brings forth the artist, the activist and the free woman, revealing the echoes between two life paths that each defied prevailing gazes and assigned roles.
Gregory Maqoma responds with Bantu, a creation performed by artists from the Vuyani Dance Theatre and the École des Sables. Carried by a magnetic energy, the work is threaded through with the traces history leaves imprinted on bodies, and with what continues to be passed on despite the ruptures.

Dans un solo bouleversant, Germaine Acogny, pionnière de la danse afro-contemporaine, convoque la mémoire de Joséphine Baker. Elle y fait surgir l'artiste, la militante et la femme libre, révélant les échos entre deux trajectoires qui ont chacune défié les regards et les assignations.
Gregory Maqoma lui répond avec Bantu, une création interprétée par des artistes du Vuyani Dance Theatre et de l’École des Sables. Portée par une énergie magnétique, l'œuvre est traversée par les traces que l'histoire imprime dans les corps et par ce qui continue de se transmettre malgré les ruptures.
