David Guilbert (* 1982 in New York) ist ein US-amerikanischer Künstler, der in Los Angeles lebt und arbeitet.
Die MEP präsentiert die erste Einzelausstellung von David Gilbert in Frankreich und versammelt eine Auswahl von Werken aus den letzten fünfzehn Jahren seiner fotografischen Praxis an der Schnittstelle von Skulptur, Zeichnung, Malerei und Installation. In seinem Atelier komponiert und fotografiert der Künstler zarte Inszenierungen aus vergänglichen Materialien: Papierschnitte, drapierte Stoffe, Fäden, Fundstücke, die durch ein dramatisches Spiel von Schatten und natürlichem Licht sublimiert werden. Diese von der Kamera fixierten Momente der Spontaneität und des Unfalls strahlen ein Gefühl von Intimität und Geheimnis aus, das eine performative Praxis und einen queeren materiellen Ansatz verbindet.

David Guilbert (1982, New York) is an American artist who lives and works in Los Angeles.
The MEP presents David Gilbert’s first solo exhibition in France, bringing together a selection of works from the last fifteen years of his photographic practice at the crossroads of sculpture, drawing, painting and installation. In his studio, the artist composes and photographs delicate staging from ephemeral materials: paper cuts, draped fabrics, strings, found objects, enhanced by a dramatic play of shadows and natural lights. Fixed by the camera, these moments of spontaneity and accident release a feeling of intimacy and mystery, articulating a performative practice and a queer material approach.

La MEP presenta la prima mostra personale di David Gilbert in Francia, riunendo una selezione di opere degli ultimi quindici anni della sua pratica fotografica al crocevia tra scultura, disegno, pittura e installazione. Nel suo studio, l'artista compone e fotografa scene delicate con materiali effimeri: ritagli di carta, tessuti drappeggiati, fili, oggetti trovati, sublimati da un gioco drammatico di ombre e luci naturali. Fissati dalla fotocamera, questi momenti di spontaneità e casualità emanano un senso di intimità e mistero, che articola una pratica performativa e un approccio materiale queer.

David Guilbert (1982, New York) est un artiste américain qui vit et travaille à Los Angeles.
La MEP présente la première exposition personnelle de David Gilbert en France, réunissant une sélection d'œuvres issues des dernières quinze ans de sa pratique photographique à la croisée de la sculpture, du dessin, de la peinture et de l'installation. Dans son atelier, l'artiste compose et photographie des mises en scène délicates à partir de matériaux éphémères : découpes de papier, tissus drapés, ficelles, objets trouvés, sublimées par un jeu dramatique d'ombres et de lumières naturelles. Fixés par l'appareil photo, ces moments de spontanéité et d'accident dégagent un sentiment d'intimité et de mystère, articulant une pratique performative et une approche matérielle queer.
