"Textures du temps" is the first major French retrospective of Ishiuchi Miyako, a major artist and one of the first Japanese women photographers to establish herself on the national and international artistic scene. Bringing together nearly two hundred works, the exhibition covers, through a dozen series, five decades of his artistic career, begun in 1976.
During her career, Ishiuchi Miyako has continuously explored the themes of memory and material traces of the passage of time on places, bodies and objects. Her work, in which the intimate narrative blends with political history, places the artist’s personal experience in a broader context, that of postwar Japan and the American occupation.
