DEBUSSY Sonata in trio
Julie Le Gac, Alto Elias Saintot , Flute Anne Le Roy Petit, Harp
This program presents 3 original works for flute, viola and harp. Bax’s Trio Elégiaque was composed in 1916, in memory of the friends he lost in Ireland during the Easter uprising. The work is not as dark as expected, and it highlights the instruments with a fluid writing. Takemitsu’s 1992 play, based on a poem by Emily Dickinson, "Like rain, it rang until it curved," uses all three instruments to describe the whirlwinds. Debussy’s 3-movement Sonata, composed in 1915, makes magnificent use of the timbres of each instrument.
