Nicknamed the "Douanier" because of his profession far removed from the world of art, Henri Rousseau painted thinking of the spectators, changing his works and his history according to their preferences. Self-taught, described as naive, he is mocked by his contemporaries but avant-garde artists admire him. The oneirism of his exotic visions seduced Breton, Matisse, Picasso, Derain, Delaunay, Jarry and Vallotton.
