This ceremony commemorates the Landing of Provence on 15 August 1944 and the journey of the men of the army of General de Lattre de Tassigny, who then participated in the fighting for the liberation of France until the victory of 1945.
Historical background
On 15 August 1944, Operation Dragoon, the Allied landing in Provence, began. "Army B" commanded by General Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, composed largely of French soldiers from North Africa and the colonies, landed in turn and participated in particular in the liberation of Toulon and Marseille. This Army B officially became the 1st French Army in September 1944, then went up the Rhône valley, fought in the Vosges and Alsace, crossed the Rhine and continued to Germany.
The ceremony is of particular importance in Villeneuve d'Ascq: Michel "Mic" Delrue, to whom the city gave the name of a square, had himself participated in the Landing of Provence and then in the liberation of Alsace.

Samedi 15 août 2026 à 11h, Villeneuve d'Ascq rend hommage aux combattants de la Première Armée française devant la stèle Rhin et Danube, au carrefour de la Planche Épignoy.
Cette cérémonie commémore le Débarquement de Provence du 15 août 1944 et le parcours des hommes de l'armée du général de Lattre de Tassigny, qui participèrent ensuite aux combats pour la libération de la France jusqu'à la victoire de 1945.
Rappel historique
Le 15 août 1944 débute l’opération Dragoon, le débarquement allié en Provence. L’« Armée B » commandée par le général Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, composée en très grande partie de soldats français venus d’Afrique du Nord et des colonies, débarque à son tour et participe notamment à la libération de Toulon et Marseille. Cette Armée B devient officiellement la 1re Armée française en septembre 1944, puis remonte la vallée du Rhône, combat dans les Vosges et en Alsace, franchit le Rhin et poursuit jusqu’en Allemagne.
La cérémonie revêt une importance particulière à Villeneuve d'Ascq : Michel « Mic » Delrue, auquel la Ville a donné le nom d'un square, avait lui-même participé au Débarquement de Provence puis à la libération de l'Alsace.

Deze ceremonie herdenkt de landing van de Provence op 15 augustus 1944 en de reis van de mannen van het leger van generaal de Lattre de Tassigny, die vervolgens deelnamen aan de strijd voor de bevrijding van Frankrijk tot de overwinning van 1945.
Historische herinnering
Op 15 augustus 1944 begon operatie Dragoon, de geallieerde landing in de Provence. Het "Leger B" onder leiding van generaal Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, dat grotendeels bestaat uit Franse soldaten uit Noord-Afrika en de koloniën, landde op zijn beurt en nam deel aan de bevrijding van Toulon en Marseille. Dit B-leger werd officieel het 1e Franse leger in september 1944, ging vervolgens de Rhônevallei op, vocht in de Vogezen en Elzas, stak de Rijn over en ging verder naar Duitsland.
De ceremonie was van bijzonder belang voor Villeneuve d'Ascq: Michel "Mic" Delrue, aan wie de stad de naam van een plein gaf, had zelf deelgenomen aan de landing van de Provence en de bevrijding van de Elzas.
