About the location

Cathédrale Saint-Cyr et Sainte-Julitte
6 rue Abbé Boutillier, 58000 Nevers
  • Nièvre
  • Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
Dominating the mound, the cathedral of Nevers is characterised by its two apses, witnesses(batons) of its long history(story). The Romance cathedral of the XIth century, built on Carolingian foundations, resumes(takes back) the sour(turned) chorus(choir) westward. Fires in 1211 and 1308 oblige to rebuild a nave and an orientated chorus(choir) Gothic. The building is supplemented in the XVth century by the side chapels of style Flamboyant Gothic and in the XVIth century by the tower. If the bombardment of July, 1944 caused important damages, he also allowed to discover the vestiges of the baptistry of the VIth century. Finally, the installation of contemporary stained-glass windows registers resolutely the cathedral of Nevers in a prospect(perspective) of future.
