Pierre Bernier is an ambitious man. Pierre Bernier is also—and above all—a painter awaiting glory and the medal of honor at the Painting Salon. Pierre Bernier is in love with Lolette, whose back he painted in a work that would bring him success; this success would lift him very high, but also very far from Lolette, who would soon become nothing more than "The Naked Woman."
This lyrical drama, composed between the two world wars by Henry Février, addresses several themes that transcend all eras: desire, the gaze of others, social mobility, abandonment, and the place of women in art and society.

Pierre Bernier est un ambitieux. Pierre Bernier est aussi — et d’abord — un peintre qui attend la gloire et la médaille d’honneur au Salon de peinture. Pierre Bernier est épris de Lolette, dont il a peint le dos, sur un tableau qui fera son succès, lequel l’entraînera très haut, mais également très loin de Lolette qui, bientôt, ne sera plus que « La Femme nue ».
Ce drame lyrique composé entre les deux guerres par Henry Février aborde plusieurs sujets, qui traversent toutes les époques : le désir, le regard des autres, le changement de classe, l’abandon, la place de la femme dans l’art et dans la société…
