The MEG is partnering with the Grand Théâtre de Genève to host three Apéropéras, echoing the Afrosonica – Soundscapes exhibition.

At the end of the 19th century, Japan sparked a rich imagination in Europe that took the form of an aesthetic trend known as Japonism. The figure of the geisha is an emblematic representation of this trend, combining fascination, idealization, and ignorance of the concrete realities of this region of the world. Echoing this, Giacomo Puccini's Madame Butterfly presents a Western vision of Japan, where fantasized representations and cultural realities intersect. This tour of the Asia section of the MEG's permanent exhibition explores these differences.

Le MEG s’associe au Grand Théâtre de Genève pour accueillir trois Apéropéras, en faisant écho à l'exposition «Rencontres » et l'exposition permanente.
Apéropéra
Activité : À la fin du XIXᵉ siècle, le Japon fait naître en Europe un imaginaire foisonnant qui prend la forme d’une mode esthétique, le japonisme. La figure de la geisha en est une figuration emblématique, entre fascination, idéalisation et méconnaissance des réalités concrètes de cette région du monde. En écho, Madame Butterfly de Giacomo Puccini met en scène une vision occidentale du Japon, où se croisent représentations fantasmées et réalités culturelles. Cette visite au sein du parcours Asie de l’exposition permanente du MEG propose d’interroger ces écarts.
