During my long-term field research in the Amazon I was confronted with powers ascribed to sounds and music that would suggest to account for “secret knowledge”, although Indigenous people tended to talk about it quite openly. In a Central European contemporary music therapy, on the other hand, knowledge is treated as if it were all scientific and evident, but specialists talk about it as reluctantly as if we treated secrets. I will present how to work phenomenologically in these contexts.

Speaker Dr. Bernd Brabec de Mori, anthropologist and musicologist as well as assistant professor at the Centre for Systematic Musicology at the University of Graz.

The conference will be streamed live on the Facebook page of the Master in Ethnomusicology: https://www.facebook.com/Master-of-Arts-Ethnomusicologie-Neuch%C3%A2telGen%C3%A8ve-1723256957939898/
