Climate Emergency. A Meeting with Marshallese Artist and Activist Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner

In partnership with the Caux Initiatives of Change Foundation, MEG is pleased to welcome Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner for a special event. Originally from the Marshall Islands, she came to international attention in 2014 and 2015 through her speeches at the United Nations Climate Summit and the COP21.
Her performances urge the international community to take action in response to the climate crisis and the devastating legacy of nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands. Since 2015, she has travelled the world as a climate envoy, raising awareness about the already severe impacts of climate change throughout the Pacific.
The event will begin with the screening of three of the artist's short films — Beached, Anointed, and Rise — followed by a discussion between Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner and Doreen de Brum.
The screening and discussion will be held in English.
Speakers:
• Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner, poet, performer, and climate activist from the Republic of the Marshall Islands
• Doreen de Brum, Ambassador at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva
