The 4th edition of the Franco-British Local Government Forum will be organized in Bordeaux from 4 to 5 November 2026.

The City of Bordeaux and the French Association of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (AFCCRE) invite you to attend the 4th Franco-British Local Government Forum on 4 and 5 November 2026.
This event – which is supported by the local government associations of the United Kingdom, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and the embassies of both countries – will bring together, over two days, 200 representatives who are actively involved in cooperation between France and the United Kingdom.
Established in 2019, this forum aims to strengthen ties between local authorities in both countries and to discuss the common challenges they face – strengthening local democracy, promoting local development, adapting to climate change and the digital transition – as well as to explore new ways of strengthening twinning arrangements as the UK rejoins certain European programmes, notably Erasmus+.
Following the success of the previous editions in London, Nancy and Leeds, Bordeaux’s bid was selected to host the fourth edition. The City of Bordeaux’s hosting of this forum is rooted in the history and vitality of its town twinning with Bristol. Established in 1947, in the aftermath of the Second World War, it is the oldest such partnership between a French and a British city. It is built on regular exchanges in various fields: youth mobility, sporting events, economic and cultural cooperation, and political and technical exchanges on the energy transition and topics of remembrance.

La Ville de Bordeaux et l’Association française du Conseil des communes et régions d’Europe (AFCCRE) vous donnent rendez-vous les 4 et 5 novembre 2026 pour la 4e édition du Forum franco-britannique des gouvernements locaux.
Cet évènement – qui bénéficie du soutien des associations d’élus locaux du Royaume-Uni, du ministère français de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères et des ambassades des deux pays – réunira pendant deux jours 200 représentants fortement engagés dans la coopération entre la France et le Royaume-Uni.
Créé en 2019, ce forum vise à renforcer les liens entre collectivités locales des deux pays et à échanger sur les défis communs auxquels elles sont confrontées – renforcement de la démocratie locale, promotion du développement local, adaptation au changement climatique, transition numérique – mais aussi à explorer de nouvelles voies pour renforcer les jumelages alors que le Royaume-Uni réintègre certains programmes européens, notamment Erasmus+.
Après les succès des éditions précédentes à Londres, Nancy et Leeds, la candidature de Bordeaux a été retenue pour la 4e édition. L’accueil de ce forum par la Ville de Bordeaux se fonde sur l’histoire et le dynamisme de son jumelage avec Bristol. Créé en 1947, au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il est le plus ancien entre deux villes françaises et britanniques. Il s’appuie sur des échanges réguliers dans divers domaines : mobilités des jeunes, rencontres sportives, coopérations économiques et culturelles, échanges politiques et techniques sur la transition énergétique et questions mémorielles.
