"Le Corsaire" dance show
A magical show
A blend of adventure and fantasy, Le Corsaire tells the tale of the thwarted love affair between the privateer Conrad and the beautiful Médora, whom he rescues from the harem of the terrible Seyd Pacha. Kidnappings, shipwrecks and rebellions carry the performers along in an epic tale. The colorful mosaics of an imaginary Orient are echoed in Adolphe Adam's passionate music, which draws on the ballet's literary origins and Byron's Orientalist poem. The choreography by José Carlos Martínez, Director of Dance at the Opéra national de Paris, is inspired by that of Marius Petipa (1899), and pays homage to his most emblematic pieces: Le Jardin animé, and Pas d'esclave. Colorful, characterful dances follow one another, between virtuoso ensembles and solo variations. With this new production, Le Corsaire is reborn and pays tribute to the lush beauty of this great classic.
