FUSA is a musical project steeped in memory and transatlantic connections. Its music unfolds like a carousel floating on the ocean.
Initially, the project was inspired by the sounds and rhythms pulsing through the veins of Latin America, especially Brazil. But over time, the vessel has been pushed northward by the wind blowing from the brass instruments of North America. A German violin that speaks in Latin tongues, a Brazilian guitar that improvises in the Peruvian style, a drummer shuttling back and forth to the Big Apple, a double bassist who rocks the boat shouting “groovah,” and a trombonist hailing from the center of the world: Salvador de Bahia. A diverse, unique, and unprecedented ensemble. A vessel that grooves, carving out a “furrow” through which improvisations on unfamiliar tunes weave their way—full of stories and shifting, moving rhythms.
