This mansion is the continuation of the Saint-Martin hospital founded by Louis VII in 1170. The chapel hospice dates back to 1230, the date of the transfer rue du Châtel. This chapel is marked by a portal with a delicately carved tympanum. Saint-Louis, who often stayed at Senlis, came to do justice before the court. Come and admire the exhibition of the ceramist Anne Berthelot.

About the location

Hôtel-Dieu de Garlande
26, rue du Châtel, 60300 Senlis
  • Oise
  • Hauts-de-France
The creation of the Hôtel-Dieu de Garlande can be seen between 1220 and 1230, the date attributed to the remains of the chapel. Its creation finds its roots in the need to move the Hôtel-Dieu founded by Louis VII to the faubourg Saint-Martin, inside the walls of the City. It is built on a plot bequeathed to the Hôtel-Dieu by the family of Garlandes, well possessioned to Senlis.
Access to the site is through a carved portal opening onto the remains of the chapel, amputated from its lower south side. The space is punctuated by four arches falling back on columns surmounted by capitals with hooks. The space allowed the reception of the patients. The whole of the Hotel-Dieu presents a significant state of conservation, with a body of lodgings in "L", on cellars, dating back to the modern era and framing a central courtyard closed to the east by a wall, and to the north by the chapel.
