Free visit of the gardens of the Domaine du Montmarin
Major element of any malouinière, the gardens of Montmarin extend over 6 hectares. From the Jardin à la Française to the Potager Clos de Murs, on the terrace up to the Rance, it is classified as a Historic Monument. It offers botanical enthusiasts as well as amateurs an unforgettable walk with a thousand scents and colors.
The garden in the French style
Its design remains almost unchanged since the 18th century, it is the historic part of the Montmarin garden. Its particularity is: the Magnolia Grandiflora dating from 1787.
Since 1966, it is classified Historical Monument.
The current vegetable garden comes from a 19th century plan and was slightly modified in the 1990s.
Its installation was an integral part of the restoration of the estate following the storm of December 1999. This decorative vegetable garden houses part of the park’s rose, dahlia and agapanthus collections.
The romantic terraces & gardens
1887/1888, creation under the first terrace of a romantic garden in the manner of the Bühler brothers.
It is a walk between the large lawns, massifs, groves and trees of the 5 continents, an invitation to travel in the footsteps of explorers through the plant collections that enrich from generation to generation.
The rock
It was created at the end of the First World War (1920s) by Yves Bazin de Jessey on the site of the former shipyard (fashion of the time). He built a cliff on the banks of Rance: the Rocaille. Many times reworked and restored, it is victim of its environment (granite) which implies important and regular work.
