About the location

Château et Jardins de Brécy
Château de Brécy, 14480 Creully-sur-Seulles
  • Calvados
  • Normandie
The garden of Brécy rises in terraces on four terraces connected(bound) by a beautiful staircase with degrees convex and rising above the flowerbed(orchestra) at the back of the house up to the railing(bar) giving on the sky. These terraces have an increasing width to correct prospect(perspective). The main aisle ends by two successive portals(gates). The sculpted decorations(sets) are of a big(great) refinement: balusters with acanthus leaves, vases(muds), pilasters, consoles. Also let us indicate the numerous trees cut in topiary, the hollies in balls in boxes(cash registers) with orange trees and the small herb garden. Gardens are green, white and blue. Boxwoods, yews and charms decline greens. A collection of laurels, osmanthus, of holly, leans in the wall of the last terrace. According to seasons, flowers are tulips, irises, hellébores, peonies, romneya coulteri, cardoons, magnolias. On the house, the rose "madam Alfred Carrière", pearly white, is next(goes alongside) to Decumaria sinensis. In blues(bruises), clematises durandii or jackmanii accompany agapanthuses, nepetas, perovskias and solanums. Many collection of clematises intersperses the garden as well as old(former) roses behind the church. Brécy kept(guarded) a strong medieval imprint, closed independent gardens of walls, acquisitions of Renaissance, sculpture and embroidery, while announcing big(great) compositions of the classic French gardens, in narrow relation with the house.
