Château de Saveilles
1 rue du Château 16240
- Charente
- Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Castle located in the north of Charente, Saveilles combines the characteristics of the castle with those of the castle of pleasure, and stands since the fourteenth century near the village of Paizay-Naudouin (Charente), at the crossing of the Charente, the Charente-Maritime andSèvres, halfway between Niort and Angoulême. The 14th, 16th and 19th centuries coexist harmoniously. You can discover and admire the exteriors, surrounded by water moats, including two houses arranged in square with a tower at their end. It is a square complex, isolated from the mainland by vast moats filled with water and supported by walls. It is accessed by two stone bridges, fixed, which since the Revolution, have replaced the drawbridge with a tilt to the south and the swing bridge with two arches to the north, formerly defending the access to the castle. The entrance courtyard includes a long common building and corner towers. Discover:
* The prison tower, with its gunboats, to the north,
* The big towe
