Jardin des Plantes
Poitiers, Boulevard Chasseigne
Created in 1869 on the gardens of the Hôtel-Dieu, the Jardin des Plantes was designed to be a garden of pleasure, with its cave, its piece of water, its massifs of mosaïculture and its paths to the landscape.
It includes about a hundred species of trees and shrubs, which by their age and volume are remarkable. The botanical garden, created on the initiative of medical teachers for the purpose of documentation for the students of the nearby Faculty, is surrounded by hedges that separate it from the rest of the park.
The garden includes a botanical garden that houses a wide variety of labelled and classified plants (aromatic, condiments, medicinal...) on some 4800 m². The 200m² tropical greenhouse houses 150 different species including a collection of orchids and cacti.
Thematic visits and workshops are organised during the year.
