Theater: "Uncle Vania" by Anton Chekhov
Uncle Vania of Anton Chekhov Serebriakov, a renowned academic, married to a young woman, Elena, chose to retire to the family estate, away from everything. The arrival of the couple breaks the balance of those who worked until then day by day. Community quickly becomes impossible: by accumulating emotional, intellectual and sexual frustrations, the characters are caught up by their destructive demons. So, all cling to the present moment and the hope of passion to feel alive, even if only for a moment... Behind this fervor are hidden their failed lives and an unbearable thirst for tenderness. At the end of the 19th century, Doctor Astrov, ecologist before the time, is already revolting from the progressive and continuous destruction of nature, as echoing our contemporary reality.
Chekhov, both a doctor and a playwright, excels at translating the torments of the human soul into an emotional choreography. His theatre is based on situations that reveal the characters' feelings and their quest for happiness.
