The Abbaye aux Dames is also an extraordinary space where the beauty of architecture is combined with green spaces. Our gardens have become a project of sharing with the inhabitants in partnership with the association Bellerive and the City of Saintes. Come relax in the heart of the abbey and smell the scents "sound and olfactory". Thanks to the sound naps, comfortably installed in a deckchair and equipped with a 3D sound headset, enjoy the acoustic experience of the Festival of Saintes.

About the location

Abbaye aux Dames de Saintes
11 place de l'Abbaye
  • Charente-Maritime
  • Nouvelle-Aquitaine
It is in an architectural ensemble where mix Romanesque art of the abbey and conventual buildings of classical style, that the abbey to the Ladies of Saintes has implemented a project around music, especially interpretation, and put it into a national and international network. At the time when the nuns still lived in the conventual buildings, there was already a garden of the simple. Medicinal plants were mainly cultivated, intended for the sick and pilgrims passing through. This garden has been recreated to give back to the space its charm of yesteryear. A nice walk in a place that inspires serenity and offers an incredible view of the Romanesque bedside of the Abbaye aux Dames, not to mention its recognizable bell tower in the shape of a pine cone.
