Parc du Château
17 rue de Metz 57470 Hombourg Haut
The castle was built in 1760-65, in place of old mills on the Rosselle and near the forge, by the famous Lorraine family of De Wendel (Charles De Wendel was then master of the Hayange ironworks). Authorization was obtained from the Duke of Lorraine Stanislas in 1758.
It was in 1808 that the castle became the property of Ignage-Charles d'Hausen de Weidesheim, nephew of Anne Marguerite d'Hausen de Weidesheim (wife of Charles de Wendel), whose original lands are located in the commune of Kalhausen, not far from Bitche and Sarreguemines.
The building became the property of the Gouvys in 1882\. In 1937 the Compagnie Houillère de Sarre-et-Moselle bought the castle and in 1946 it was the HBL (Houillères du Bassin de Lorraine) (the castle became the seat of their Board of Directors). Until 1996, it will welcome patrons of the HBL before their progressive end. Since 2003, it has become the City Hall of Hombourg-Haut.
