The first Renaissance castle in France, Gaillon was accompanied in the 16th century by a series of remarkable gardens. Food gardens, pleasure gardens, hunting park, now extend over thirty hectares. The archbishops of Rouen, owners of Gaillon until the Revolution, received Louis XII, François I, Louis XVI and Benjamin Franklin.
