Mediterranean garden
The Luxembourg foundation for the protection of nature natur&ëmwelt – Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur has taken over the Mediterranean Garden, built over the last 30 years by Charles Roovers and Dieter Lingener, in the form of a donation at the end of 2009. The garden is currently maintained jointly by natur&ëmwelt employees and former owner Dieter Lingener. The work of the Natur&ëmwelt Foundation is supported by the Luxembourg organisation of the Friends of Gardens and Ponds (AAT). The ecological gardening centre is part of a project funded by the LEADER MISELERLAND region and with the participation of the municipality of Wellenstein, now Schengen, which was carried out by the Luxembourg nature conservation organisation natur&ëmwelt from 2009 to 2012. In 2012, thanks to the financial support of the Great Duchess Charlotte National Relief Society, the old small barn was enlarged. The new building serves as a cold room for wintering potted plants in winter and is available to visitors of the garden and activities of the center in summer. The offices of the center and a reference library with horticultural literature are located on the upper floor and are also accessible to visitors.
