Abbaye et jardins de Beaulieu-en-Rouergue
Route de l'Abbaye, 82330 Ginals
The Cistercian abbey, which has become a centre of contemporary art, a crossroads between visitors and art lovers, has seen the gardens of its former cloister entirely replanted in a spirit of contemporary evocation. The galleries that had disappeared from the cloister were restored to their boundaries by means of bins. Stone troughs show alive the leaves that served as models for the sculptors when they were carving the capitals of the monastery. A garden of simple and medicinal plants unfolds in front of the chapter room. At the gable of the abbey house, the Virgin Mary is evoked by the numerous flowers that symbolized her in the Middle Ages. At the entrance of the cellar, cereals, legumes and roots gather to recall the importance of field crops, the pragmatic farming of the Cistercian monks and the presence at their side of the lay brothers. Open from 1 April to 30 October
